Origins of The Rogues
This was a Level 2 Team from the ASM Advanced Game Design program with 6 members working on the game in the first half of the program in 2025. Josue started this team by giving everyone the idea of a roguelike game in which the 5 other team members either like the idea of a type game or just went along with the idea to have something to work on.
Development of Gone Rogue
Josue and Angelique worked together to make the story for the Rogues. Half of the team mainly worked on concepts for the character designs for the characters in the game. Thien, one of the artists in the team, later then asked the Level 1 group to make a poll on which character designs are the best for the game in which eight of the ten Level 1 members voted in. Juda worked very hard on coding the project to make the roguelike game come to life. Martin also helped Juda on some parts of the code such as the UI designs, and the sprint and dash mechanics of the game. During the first half of the 2025 Summer Program, there were many miscommunications between the storywriters, coders, and artists on how the game should be which led to many of the content of the Roguelike game becoming scrapped which halted the development of the game. After the second half of the 2025 Summer Advanced Game Design program, most of the team besides Thien and Juda stopped working on the game for the Roguelike game.
Cancellation of Gone Rogue
Thien and Juda tried to work together to finish the roguelike game after the 2025 Summer Program but unfortunately, Juda and Thien got busy on AP schoolworks for their school year which led to less communication and the cancellation of the game. In August 2026, Thien asked Juda for the file of the latest version of the game so that the cancelled roguelike game can have a proper burial and one last sendoff before abandoning the project. Thien worked with Martin and Josue to archive and modernize the The Rogues website for the 2026 Summer Program before abandoning the team for an indefinite amount of time (likely forever).
Impact of The Rogues on Other Teams
Although the cancellation of the game was quite devastating as the game had a lot of potential to become great, it helped the members from The Rogues learn on how to coordinate with the team properly when they worked in their new teams (ex: The Glorpians, The Rogue Horsemen, and Goofy Goobers) so that they would prevent most of the mistakes that happened with The Rogues so that they prevent another cancellation on another games. Unfortunately, when Thien and Chris, the artists of The Rogues joined a new 2026 Spring design team, The Boo Crew, The game for The Boo Crew had fallen for some of the same/similar mistakes as The Rogues (Lack of communication, coordination, and morale), it led to the Boo Crew's game being in hiatus and made Chris left the program forever. This is the story of members of The Rogues team and how it impacted other teams in the future for the Rogues. The Rogues's team also impacted the development of Josue's 2026 Summer design team, The Dess Nons, by making Josue reuse Amos' final battle music against Mealladh for his Undertale inspired game.
