“Want your users to fall in love with your designs?
Fall in love with your users.” – Dana Chisnell
“If I asked people what they wanted, they would have
said ‘faster horses’.” – Henry Ford
You will be part of a design team in tackling Project 2, which will be a heterogeneous orchestration of numerous components, including an advanced version of your Project 1. This group work will culminate in a communication campaign according to team concept strategies, but is not dependent on team consensus. Strategies should be flexible enough to accommodate the wealth of divergent perspectives, methods and aesthetics of the team members.
Like Project 1, the ultimate goal of this intensify interactivity in the design process as well as in the UI, and drawing in a target audience into the concept/design phases will still be a valuable tool in an inquiry process.
Components
1. Personal project developments
You will continue work on your Project 1, although the nature of the new developments will be entirely dependent on your own proposal. It will be assumed that the work with your original target audience will continue.
2. Design Team site
Your design team will have a dedicated web presence, and an enterprise interface scheme will need to be addressed. The site will include the following:
a) A mission statement (note that “statement” is open to interpretation)
b) Team member titles and credits
c) Links to individual portfolios
d) Link to finished campaign visualization(s). I would also recommend having documentation of your lo-fidelity visualizations, since these boast the frenetic thought process of the team.
3. Revised portfolio sites
Graded separately. You will remake your portfolio sites using an advanced template. You will need to incorporate the team's enterprise interface scheme in some fashion, in a manner that is appropriate to your team's concept strategies.
4. Public intervention
A component of your communication campaign will intrude into the analog world.
5. Social media appendage
The use of an existing social media service will be incorporated into your team's communication campaign.
6. Mobile appendage --recommended
At least one interface will primarily target mobile devices.
7. Simulation environment --recommended
An interface that becomes a virtual environment, either through the use of a game engine (if team skills permit) or through other means. The goal of this interface is to offer your audience an spatial experience that is unique from the other interfaces in your design campaign.
Stages
1. Self-presentation (due Week 8, 3/19)
This will familiarize others with your skill sets and technological outlook.
2. Design team mashup (due Week 9, 4/2)
Your team will engage in a mashup exercise using elements from your individual projects.
3. Team visualization design (due Week 14, 5/7)
Your team will create a visualization to illustrate the interrelationships of your personal projects, the project components, and the process of audience interactions.
4. Personal project proposal (due Week 11, 4/16)
You will submit a written plan for your personal project, in which you will define the appropriate form, direction and goals.
5. Target audience feedback presentation (due Week 13, 4/30)
Present for the class a progress presentation of your ongoing work with your primary target audience for your personal project. This can include form responses, conversations and material exchanges.
6. Project 2 mockup presentation (due Week 14, 5/7)
Your team will present the finished campaign visualization, as well as mockup visualizations of the individual components (or, preferably, final versions in the rough). Your design team website will need to be live at this point.
7. Finalized Project 2 (due Week 15, 5/14)
